As the weather warms up (or if you’re just a year-round cold brew fan), there’s nothing better than a glass of smooth, refreshing cold brew coffee. At Voyage of the Bean, we’re all about helping you enjoy the best coffee experience at home — and cold brew is one of the easiest and most satisfying ways to do it.

The Basics: What You’ll Need

Making cold brew at home is surprisingly simple. All you need is:

  • Coarse ground coffee (we’ll explain why below)

  • Cold water

  • A large jar or pitcher

  • A cold brew bag or filter (we’ve got you covered there!)

  • Time (about 12–18 hours)

Why Coarse Grind?

Cold brew is all about a slow, gentle extraction process. Using a coarse grind (similar to raw sugar or sea salt) allows for an even extraction without overdoing it. A finer grind can lead to bitterness or a sludgy texture — not the smooth, chocolatey flavor we're going for.

If you're grinding at home, use the coarsest setting on your grinder. Or if you're ordering from us, just select "Coarse Grind (Cold Brew)" at checkout.

Our Favorite Beans for Cold Brew

While all of our beans are roasted with care and love, we have a couple of standout favorites when it comes to cold brew:

  • Mayan Soul – This Guatemalan beauty brings a rich body with notes of dark chocolate and a hint of stone fruit. It’s bold, smooth, and incredibly refreshing over ice.

  • Honduras Heights – One of our newest arrivals, this single-origin gem has a lighter, brighter profile with subtle sweetness and floral undertones. It’s a unique take on cold brew — crisp, clean, and perfect for warm afternoons.

Step-by-Step: Cold Brew at Home

  1. Measure your coffee – A good ratio is 1 cup of coarse coffee to 4 cups of water. Adjust to taste!

  2. Fill your cold brew bag – Scoop your coffee into one of our Cold Brew Bags, which make cleanup a breeze.

  3. Add water – Drop the bag into your jar or pitcher and fill it with cold, filtered water.

  4. Steep – Let it sit in the fridge (or at room temp) for 12–18 hours.

  5. Remove the bag – Give it a gentle squeeze, then discard.

  6. Serve – Pour over ice, add a splash of your favorite milk or sweetener, and enjoy.

Bonus Tip

Cold brew concentrate keeps well in the fridge for up to a week. If it’s too strong, just dilute with water, milk, or a little oat milk for a creamy treat.

Whether you’re sipping in the sun or prepping your weekly batch, cold brew made with Voyage of the Bean is the perfect way to stay cool and caffeinated.
